Microsoft Pro Bono, SABA North America, and API in CELA EN are pleased to welcome international human rights lawyer and global free speech expert, Karuna Nundy to Microsoft! She will be speaking about protecting human rights in the digital age and the importance of pro bono work, particularly in today’s climate. As you will read in her bio below, Karuna has been a trailblazer in the international human rights law space and has taken many pro bono cases throughout her career including the heinous gang rape case in 2012 in Delhi that garnered international attention and condemnation. In its aftermath, she contributed to the drafting of India’s anti-rape laws.


Here is Karuna’s official bio:

Karuna Nundy is an Advocate at the Supreme Court of India and an International lawyer. Her litigation practice includes focus on constitutional and human rights law, commercial dispute resolution, tech, media, and criminal law. She has been hailed as a leading lawyer of the Indian Supreme Court by the BBC, listed by the Economic Times as one of the fastest rising women leaders 'famous in the corporate world for her expertise in commercial law', and one of India's most pathbreaking feminists by the Times of India. Ms. Nundy has lead a number of constitutional cases including those stemming from the Bhopal gas disaster, on women's rights, tech regulation, and overbroad criminal provisions. She currently serves on Columbia University’s Global Free Speech Experts' Committee and the High Level Panel of Legal Experts for Media Freedom headed by former CJI of England Lord Neuberger and Amal Clooney. Karuna received her BA from Delhi University, her LLB from the University of Cambridge, and her LLM from Columbia University.


The event will be done in a fireside chat format and will be moderated by CELA’s Nyssa P. Chopra.
